A rotary tiller also popularly known as rotavator is farm equipment used for soil preparation before planting seeds. It is used as a tractor attachment pulled behind it to break up topsoil. It consists of rotating blades also known as rotors attached either to the rear or front of a tiller. These rotating blades spin and cut through the soil to make it ideal for planting. It breaks clods, moisturizes and pulverize the soil providing a healthy environment for plants growth and to get a high yield.
The rotary tiller is mainly used to cultivate the land and is
very popular among farmers as it works effectively. It is cheaper in terms of
maintenance, economical to use and also requires less space. The type of rotavator
a farmer needs to use depends on the texture of the soil. Rotavators can be set to
operate at different speeds that allow rotors or blades to move slower or
faster. A farmer should try attest run first of a rotary tiller on the soil to
decide its speed. A farmer not only needs to be careful when it comes to
choosing the right rotavator for his farm but the attention also needed to use
and maintain it properly.
Uses and Function of a Rotavator or Rotary Tiller:
·
Break the clods in the soil and loosen it giving
a smooth surface to topsoil.
·
Prepares a perfect of seedbed for sowing.
·
Turning the topsoil allows plants to absorb maximum
amount of nutrient available in the soil.
·
Helps in increasing the crop yield.
·
Kills the weeds and removes old crop residue.
Rotavator is versatile machinery that can be used in primary as well as secondary tillage which makes it suitable for different types of soils. It is mostly used for cultivating vegetables and in paddy field.
