Impact of Rotavator as a Conservation Tillage Implement

Tillage is on the basic farming operation. It is generally done due to creating an ideal seedbed preparation and plant growth, this operation includes plowing, harrowing, and mechanical destruction of weeds and soil crust, etc. Rotavator is used for tillage and inter-culture operation in the preparation of seedbed requires three to four passes. Due to this, it minimizes time and energy up to 25% in the field operation in comparison to another implement. However, if we see in the context of Indian Agriculture where tractors are frequently used in 26-65 hp by a huge number of farmers, it is necessary that matching size of rotavator be available for different power ranges of tractors. Rotavator is mostly available in the size of 120-150 mm, which is suitable for a tractor having 45 hp and above. Also, due to soil type, texture, Irrigation, cropping pattern, etc., it is also necessary that different designs of rotavators require to suit particular cropping conditions.

Tractor Harvester | Combine Harvester

The combine harvester is one of the great inventions in the history of the agriculture machinery industry. Most of us even don't imagine this type of invention, and It has a huge impact on our life.

So, now what is combine harvester exactly?

It is versatile farm machinery that’s designed to efficiently harvest a variety of crops—separating straw from the nutrients left in it.

In the era of mechanization, the combine is considered as one of the most economically important labor-saving inventions. In fact, combine harvester is responsible for significantly reducing the number of individuals required to farm.

It is used to harvest a variety of grains such as wheat, oats, maize, sorghum, rice, soybeans, sunflowers, and many other crops, combine works as all in one machine.

Instead of using separate agricultural machinery for different farming activities like threshing, winnowing and grain reaping the harvester can combine all these farming activities into a single step, due to this fact in the modern era, the combine is considered as one of the most popular labor-saving inventions.

7 Best Tillage Equipment to Have for a Mechanized Farm

Tillage is the initial process in agricultural practices and half of the job of growing crops is done by tilling or managing the soil. Once a farm has perfect soil conditions, it is easier for a farmer to accomplish further farming operations.

Tilling or managing soil requires many tough jobs from digging up the weeds to providing a perfect structure to the soil for planting. Farm mechanization allows a farmer to accomplish all the harsh jobs at a farm in minimum time and maximum efficiency. A fully mechanized farm should be well equipped with the necessary farm equipment required for tillage. Here we have mentioned the most used tillage equipment in agricultural practices.

Ploughs

Ploughs are the most basic tillage equipment used to break, turn and mix the soil and works efficiently even in rocky and rooted areas. Various models used worldwide as per their functions are – mould-board plough, reversible mould-board plough, disc plough etc.

Rotary Tillers

Popularly known as Rotavator, a rotary tiller is used in both primary and secondary tillage operations. Managing soil with rotavator ensures that the land is perfectly levelled with no clods to make it perfect for planting seeds.

Harrows

Harrow is used as primary tillage equipment in an open field for superficial ploughing, smashing the clods, aerate the soil and burying the organic remains and substances under the surface. Few Harrow models are high speed disc harrow, power harrow, poly disc harrow etc.

Sub Soilers

Sub soiler are used in the areas where deep tillage is required especially to break up hardpan layers in the soil and loosening the subsoil for improved drainage, ideal root growth and mineral osmosis.

Cultivator

A cultivator is used to loosen and aerate the soil to a depth of nine inches. The cultivator is used as secondary tillage machinery that easily till the soil on each side of the rows in the fields, removing unwanted weeds and grass.

Power Harrow

Power Harrow turns breaks even the most compact soil and refines and evenly distribute the soil over the entire working field to create a perfect seedbed in a single go.

Ripper

A Ripper is used to cut the weed roots under the surface, leaving the organic matter on the upper layer of the soil. It is suitable to use even in dry and harsh lands as the equipment have a robust structure to keep it safe from damages by underground stones & roots.

With the increasing mechanization in agriculture, farmers are using new and innovative agricultural machinery to get increased benefits. To know more about the modern farm equipment read below articles.

Plough Overview - Types and Uses

A plough is a piece of agricultural machinery used to till the soil in farming and its use has indeed reshaped the lives of farmers. Plough, is the primary tillage equipment one of the most important machinery used in agriculture from the beginning of farming in ancient times. The key purpose of this farm equipment is to turn and break up the upper layer of the soil, to bury weeds or previous crop remains, and to increase the water observant capacity of the soil.

With the invention of the plough, farmers were able to plant crops even on hard and rocky soil. Traditionally farmers used to till the land manually by a plough made of wood and iron, which later became considerably efficient as human used animals to pull it in the fields. And in the modern times' plough is used as a tractor implement pulled by a tractor and also have various modified models and types. Few are mentioned below

Types of Plough

These are several types of a plough, used in modern agriculture practices for different types of soil conditions.

· Mould Board Plough or MB plough
· Reversible Mould Board Plough
· Reversible Manual Plough
· Jumbo Fixed Mould Board Plough
· Mounted Mould Board Plough

Key Functions or Uses of Plough

· Plough is mainly used for turning up and mixing the soil
· For adding fertilizers to the soil
· Scraping the upper layer of the soil
· To bury old crop residues
· Kill the weeds by digging up their roots
· Makes ways for water absorption in the soil
· Makes soil full of nutrients by exposing it to sun and air.

These are just a few to mention, however, many other facts also must be considered to completely understand the significance of plough in modern agriculture practices.

Agricultural Revolution in Farming

Farm machinery is the automatic tools and equipment which include tractors, harvesters and tractor attachments, used in farming to save labour cost and time. Farm machines add a great diversity of devices with a broad range of complexity, from simple hand-held devices to the complex machines like harvesters an example of modern mechanized farm machinery.

Agricultural Revolution in Farming

Farming is a mixture of different cultures and different methods of agriculture for which different tools are being used.

If we see for the example like for crop production, they include handling of trash from early crops, first and auxiliary tillage of the soil, manure spreading and treatment, seeding, sowing, and transplanting, cultivation, pest control, harvesting, transport, a storehouse, premarketing processing, sewerage, watering and decay control and water storage.

Cattle stock, which not so long ago depended originally on the tool and scoop spade, now uses many complex and highly advanced machines for controlling water, feed, covers, and compost, as well as for the many individual procedures involved in delivering milk and eggs.

In the early 19th century, animals were the main source of power in agriculture. Later in the time, steam power engine introduced and proves own importance in machines. When World War I happen gasoline-powered tractors became popular among the producers, and diesel motors later became prevailing.

Ingrown nations, the amount of farm labourers has securely settled in the 20th century, while farm production has increased because of the use of new agriculture machinery. With the upcoming time, technology and machination are changing the shape and size of farm machines.

THE AGRICULTURE MACHINERY MARKET IN INDIA

The growing incomes of Indian farmers have helped to boost the demand for farm implements. With this, the unavailability of skilful labours for farming activities has also added to the growing demand for agricultural equipment. Moreover, various attractive funding plans offered by the governments have also encouraged Indian farmers to buy the latest farm machinery.

A Substitute For Human Labour – One of the major benefits for farmers having agriculture implements is that they help farmers saving manual labour cost. Though India is the second-largest countries using manpower, all sectors of our economy are affected by the shortage of labour. This influence is presently being more felt in the agricultural industry when comparing to other sectors.
Labour contributes a significant part in agricultural production; though, with increasing urbanization and improving opportunities, many people from rural areas are migrating to urban areas of the country, creating a major labour demand and supply imbalance. This migration is helping a lot of other proxy farmers to take care of multiple lands. As an outcome, implements are estimated to play a significant role in agriculture efficiency in the upcoming years.

The Importance of Agricultural Mechanization

Mechanization is very essential for agricultural production for any country and if we talk about developing countries, from the very beginning is has been neglected. Elements that cut the availability of farm power contains the capability to cultivate enough land and have been a reason for poverty, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.

Improving the power sources for farming allows farmers to complete more tasks in the available time and larger areas to produce better quantities while conserving the other natural resources. Using new and environmentally friendly technologies have enabled farmers to produce crops efficiently with less use of power.

Ecological agriculture mechanization is significant for contributing to the growth of d food systems and value chains because it has the potential to improve postharvest, handling and marketing functions and activities more efficiently, effectively using environmentally friendly ways.

Increasing mechanization does not essentially mean large investments in buying tractors and agriculture machinery. Farmers just require adopting the most suitable methods and ways for any operation as per the work to be completed and on who is executing it. The level of farm mechanization should be up to their requirements efficiently and effectively.

In some countries, women also play a significant role in several agriculture-based communities. In some of these, they occupy up to almost 80 percent of the entire farm labour, which also indicates that power sources such as human, animal or technology-based, needs to be improved to such requirements from an ergonomic, cultural, social and financial point of view. The drop in labour is the main element of ecological mechanization and donates to reduce women's workload by considering technologies use for their needs, improving the access to suitable forms of farm power.

Sustainable agricultural mechanization:

   - Different types of modern farm implement like a Combine, Rotavator or Rotary Tiller, Combine Harvester, Seeders etc. contribute towards increasing farm productivity by helping timelines and quality of cultivation;
   - Supports opportunities to get rid of a load of labour unavailability and allow households to survive shocks better;
   - Reduces the ecological footprint of agriculture while united with suitable conservation agriculture practices; and
   - Reduces poverty and attain food security with the improvement of farmer's livelihoods.

Major Agriculture Machinery Used in Farming

To grow productivity and revenues and lowering the costs, a farmer needs to invest in high-quality farm equipment such as a tractor, latest tractor implements like harrows, ploughs, combine and other tools. Quality farm equipment lets a farmer reduce the time of production and enhance overall profitability significantly. Below are the major agriculture machinery, without whom a large scale farmer can lose a lot of time of production.

Plough

Plough is used to making the soil ready for seeding and planting crops, to create open grooves by dragging over the soil. The quicker the land is ploughed, the more food can be grown. To grow healthy crops in unfertile ranges, the earth requires to be churned up so that nutrients come to the surface. Plough exactly do that by turning up the soil and exposing to fresh sun and air that brings fresh nutrients to the top and deposits plant residue under where it breaks down into the soil. The procedure also aerates the earth, empowering it to grasp more moisture.

Plough has improved quite a lot way since ancient times when the sticks and oxen were used. Nowadays we have exclusive farm machines like a plough that are used with tractors to turn up the soil at a speed, primaeval farmers would never have thought of, but the concept remaining the same.

Combine Harvester

Combine harvester has made each agricultural worker immensely more productive A combine machine or combine harvester allows farmers to do multiple farm activities like reaping, threshing and winnowing in a one go. In ancient times, farmers had to harvest crops by carrying out a chain of difficult and laborious farming operations one after another. But with the development of modern-day combine machines, the whole job is done automatically as they cut, thresh, and clean the grains all by them with rotating blades, sieves, wheels and elevators. While the grain collects in a tank inside harvester the chaff and the stalks gush through a huge exit pipe falling back into the field.
